Along with Burundi, Rwanda has been a stand out performer for us over many years now.
It all started when we literally stumbled across a remarkable Rwanda Inzovu from the 2009 season.
It was mid 2010 and Rwandan coffees were flying under the radar in Australia.
Prior to that time, I had steered well clear of Rwandan coffees for fear or that dreadful potato taint that often afflicted some their coffees.
Well, we are pleased to report that Mr Potato has been long gone for many years now and it's only been onwards and upwards for Rwandan coffees.
That original lot of Rwanda Inzovu in 2009 delivered an amazing orange citrus zest with a perfectly matched Swiss chocolate finish.
Over the years, we have continued to source numerous lots from Rwanda, including specially-picked and selected lots from Inzovu, Gihombo, etc.
Our feature coffee in the store is a delightful micro lot from a Northern Province washing station in Rwanda - home of the what is regarded as the best Rwandan coffees.
A classic fully washed Bourbon varietal it has both spectacular sweetness and incredible body - a body that surpasses other East African origins from Kenya and Tanzania.
This premium single origin Estate lot presents clean, honest and balanced flavours with an ideal length to the finish.
What we love most about this coffee is the hint of raisin and it's ability to be drunk all day, every day - it's not wild, intense out-there acidic or fruity - just a delightful and rewarding cup showcasing some of Africa's best.
Balanced and juicy finish will delight.
Perhaps one of the most versatile coffees in our portfolio - able to easily span most brew methods.
This Rwanda scored an impressive 85 points in our blind cup evaluation
The acid is well muted at the start, creating a nice, rounded mouthfeel with notes of chocolate and praline coming through the middle and a long, clean finish.
Works particularly well in milk-based espresso where the acid is a perfect match for the alkaline of the milk.
A delightful coffee you can drink all day, every day.
