A highly versatile coffee that sits perhaps more in the "middle" in terms of the broad range of Ethiopian coffee experiences.
For people that are just starting out exploring single origin coffees, we often point them first at Ethiopia Limou rather than diving in the deep end with a wild and spicy Harar or playing with a fruit-bomb Yirgacheffe.
Limou displays more the that classic coffee flavor - not too fruity and not too wild and funky.
A coffee for all occassions.
All Limous we source are washed. In early 2015 we did use some Natural Limou, but it's more of a novelty coffee than the everyday washed Limou.
Limous are probably closer in characteristics to the Ethiopian Sidamo, but are likely to have more body and traditional flavours with the fine tea-like attributes of the Sidamo.
Ethiopia produces amazingly complex coffees and as a result there are different growing regions and varietals that produce unique and distinctive characteristics in the coffees they process - from the naturally rustic and winey Harrar, the interesting tropical fruits of a Lekempti, the plum and winey Djimmah, chocolate driven Limou, berry infused Sidamo, wild fruity Bench to the classic tones of a fine Yirgacheffe - all the coffees from these different Ethiopian regions and amazing examples of Africa's best.
A clean cup from this washed GR1 Limou.
Balanced with a rich and refined body.
Toffee and caramel at the front, lemon and a delightful burnt orange citric acid finishing with milk chocolate.
As the acid in Limou is tending towards citric, we suggest matching the espresso with milk.
