Blind Filter 58mm

One (1) x 58mm metal blind filter.

We sell the 58mm blind filters only.

Why?

The 58mm group size is the most widespread group head size used for espresso machines.

However, please be careful and don't assume every type of espresso machine is 58mm.

Some brands (particularly lever machines) have a more minor diameter group system. Hence, they are not compatible with 58mm components.

Espresso machines can be as small as 54mm.

Please consult your owner's manual or contact your equipment supplier.

Unfortunately, we cannot answer questions about the group size on your machine - we don't sell or service coffee equipment.

How to use Blind filters

Remove the ground coffee filter basket from your 58mm group handle (or what is sometimes called a porta-filter handle).

Fit the blind filter and place a small amount of Cafetto Machine Espresso cleaner powder (detergent) in the blind filter.

Perform back flushing of the espresso machine group head.

Important - not all espresso machines can be back-flushed. You should consult your owner's manual.

Back-flushing can be performed either with chemical powder or without water).

Why use a Blind Filter

Back-flushing helps remove rancid oils that build up from the standard extraction of espresso shots.

Failure to regularly clean espresso machines may result in two(2) serious problems.

Firstly, the lack of chemical cleaning leads to degraded taste. Built-up coffee oils contain rancid and bitter compounds. 

These rancid oils accumulate around the group shower screen.

Secondly, the 3-way valve used in most espresso designs may clog, seize or fail to function correctly. 

A clogged 3-way valve could result in expensive repairs and inconsistent pressure during extraction.
